Developing: We have Handed Over Seized Drugs to State TaskForce on Drugs- MD KAROTA
By Muhammad Bashir.
The Managing Director, Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Baffa Dan'Agundi on Thursday said that his agency has handed over the recently seized illegal substances worth over N150 Million to the State's Task Force Committee on Drug abuse constituted under the State's ministry of health.
Dan'Agundi made this known in his office while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the recent raid carried out by his men which led to the impoundment of the alleged fake drugs in the state.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Agency, Nabilisi Abubakar Kofar Na'isa said the committee has been handed over the drugs and relevant authorities such as NAFDAC and NDLEA are already involved to carry out further investigation over the drugs confiscated by the agency.
He said, it is important for the public not to confuse the work of the agency as some would be wondering why the agency whose primary responsibility is traffic control and other matters related to the use of roads is involved in confiscation of drugs.
This, he said, is as a result of the Agency being a member of the state's Task Force against Drug abuse and Supply of Hard or Contraband Drugs into the state.
Baffa explained that preliminary investigation by relevant body such as NAFDAC has already confirmed that the drugs are produced without NAFDAC Registration number as some are produced under the trademark of some reputable pharmaceutical companies without their knowledge or permission.
That the state government has set aside Tuesday next week for the destruction of such drugs that have been confirmed to be fake.
The MD explained that his office is collaborating with different security and other sister agencies to train and re-train its staff so as to meet up with expectations as their work requires periodical training on how best to carry out their duties.
While praying for the repose of the souls of those the agency has lost recently, he said those who perpetrated the wicked act did it on purpose citing an instance where a driver recently arrested in connection with one of the murders threatened to crush the KAROTA official if he dares to remove his plate number, a threat he carried out without a second thought.
This, he said he would not take anymore and hope that those involved would soon be charged to court at the end of police investigation.
He call on the people of the state to cooperate with his men while on duty so that the state will continue to enjoy the reduction of accidents on the state roads which statistics has shown that there is a great decline as a result of manning of junctions and other parts of roads in the state by Karota.
