The Zamfara State Governor Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has warned people peddling lies and posting pictures that are not true especially on the social media platforms in order to cause distractions on his administration's effort in addressing security challenges in the State.
Governor Matawalle gave the warning at Government House, while receiving eight AK47 rifles, one pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition voluntarily surrendered to the government by one of the repentant bandits, Saleh Kawajo Kuyambana.
In a statement signed by the Director General Press Affairs office of the Executive Governor
Government House, Yusuf Idris on Thursday, Matawalle said his administration is going to take serious action against anyone found in the act of peddling lies or posting pictures that are not true reflections of the incidents and happenings in any part of the state vowing instructing security agencies in the state to arrest and prosecute anybody found in such acts no matter how highly placed such persons or groups are in the society.
The Governor wondered why the former governor Abdulaziz Yari is not happy with the peace so far recorded by the present administration and is instigating his boys against the Security development.
Governor Matawalle said he observed that this was the third time the Governor will visit the State and it will be followed by Security breach, noting that it was too much of coincidences and so blamed it on the unlawful gathering that the former Governor always organized.
He explained that Security is the responsibility of all and wondered why some people such as the ex governor Yari and his followers are not happy with the current development in which the security of the state has been significantly improved.
Matawalle who was earlier billed to travel to Germany to discuss investments into the state had to cancel the trip because of the unfortunate incident that occurred in Karaye village of Gummi local Government area that resulted in the loss of 14 innocent souls.
The Governor wondered why and how some of the supporters of the former Governor went ahead peddling lies that the Governor had traveled out of the country just to create unnecessary tension and anger in the state despite the fact that they are fully aware he is on ground.
He strongly cautioned them to stop the bad behaviour of spreading lies or face the full wrath of the law.
He reassured that he will not compromise or allow some failed politicians to destroy the State for their personal interests.
The Governor also commended the repentant bandits for surrendering the arms voluntarily and urged those that are yet to embrace the state peace initiative to hasten doing so before the law catches up with them.
Earlier while presenting the arms to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Nagoggo the governor commended the repentant bandits for surrendering the arms and promised to intensify efforts in addressing the Security challenges facing the State.
On his part Chairman Zamfara Committee of arms and ammunition recovery who doubles as a Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor on Security, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Dauran said his committee is working day and night to ensure that all the arms are recovered within a short period of time.
